Vicky McClure has recalled the time she flew on Madonna’s private jet before returning to her office job.
Vicky McClure appeared on The Jonathan Ross Show on May 1 along with co-star Martin Compston.
Nottingham actress Vicky, who plays DI Kate Fleming in Line of Duty, discussed the time she was directed by Madonna on the film Filth and Wisdom.
Martin, who plays DS Steve Arnott, recalled: “There’s that brilliant story you told me, you came off a plane with Madonna and you had to go back and be in charge of the vending machines at your job”.
Vicky recalled: “I didn’t leave my office job until I did This is England 86. I didn’t have a steady career, I had bills to pay.”
Remembering her time working with Madonna, she added: “They were really good to me, making sure I had time off. I’d done this film with Madonna, gone to Berlin on her private jet.
“Got back that night, I remember the next day, I was in the office as a fire warden, HR, vending machines and someone came up to me and they said, ‘I just ordered a mocha and I got a latte…’ I was like, ‘I’ll go sort that in sec.’”
Vicky told Jonathan Ross: “I really didn’t take that opportunity the way I should’ve done.
“Spending time with Madonna, I went to her house, it was incredible and I am a huge Madonna fan.
“I remember the first day we met, she was auditioning some dancers and I knew she was coming and I was really nervous.
“All of a sudden, I could sense this group of people coming towards me. I started looking in my handbag as if I was busy, so when she came over I was like ‘ey up, you alright?’.
Vicky also mentioned how she “learnt on the job” growing up in Nottingham.
She said: “The workshop in Nottingham where I went, I started there when I was 11. We did Shakespeare but we did it however we saw fit, it wasn’t like we were trained or anything.
“It was only really stepping on with Shane Meadows at 15, then on to This is England. I was going back to an office job, it’s not like a poor me story, it’s just the way it was.”
