Madonna kicked off her iconic Girlie Show tour in London 25 years ago today!
After the extreme media backlash concerning her Erotica album, SEX book and Body of Evidence film…..they got ready in their seats to write another extremely rude review. Many of them did, however was this based on actually seeing the show or was this just simply following the hype of slamming everything M did?
The people that DID actually see the show in person agreed that this was another true work of art. Who can forget the iconic entrance as Dita? The boiling hot performance of Fever (with the incredible Carlton Wilborn), the stunning harmonies of M, Donna and Niki in ‘Rain’. The absolute feast for your disco eyes in ‘Express Yourself’ and ‘Deeper and Deeper’, the incredibly witty version of ‘Like a Wirgin’, the weird choice of performing ‘I’m Going Bananas’. That absolute FANTASTIC version of ‘La isla Bonita’, M chanting ‘I don’t care if you have a small d**k as long as you know how to use that stick’ during Holiday. How about ‘Justify My Love’, now THAT is performance art!
We could go on and on but Madonna’s Girlie Show is one spectacular live show in the highest form of art.
