Madonna is known for a lot of things, subtlety not among them. Today the pop icon posted an Instagram with the caption “Doing some house work before heading to the studio with Avicii! #artforfreedom #clean.”
It’s a pleasant surprise for fans and a great move on Madge’s behalf: Avicii’s “Wake Me Up” just became the most-streamed Spotify song ever. Not a bad look!
Madge actually has a troubled history with Avicii, though. There was her controversial appearance at Avicii’s Ultra Fest set two years ago, when she took the stage and said, “I’ve been here in spirit for many years, but it’s good to finally be standing on the stage. In my world, the words ‘music’ and ‘dance’ are not separated.” She concluded her cameo with an ill-advised ecstasy joke, “Who has seen Molly?” which deadmau5 and other DJs blasted as “pandering” and a misrepresentation of the EDM scene.
Regardless, Madonna and the Swedish DJ are still pals. And if their collaboration is anywhere as good as Avicii’s remix of Madonna’s “Girl Gone Wild,” we’re in good hands.
