Despite a rocky start where she mistakenly called the crowd Boston, the 65-year-old Queen of Pop still impressively served a lengthy set of crowd-pleasers. But this was more of a life retrospective than a greatest hits parade, writes Emilie Hanskamp.

“Dear Lord, this is our last night in Toronto — the fascist state of Toronto.”

Heads bowed, hands clasped, Madonna offers these words of prayer to a huddled crew backstage of the 1990 concert in her documentary “Truth or Dare.” Moments earlier, Toronto police had threatened to arrest her on obscenity charges if she, once again, simulated masturbation onstage during “Like a Virgin.”

In a punchline familiar to every Madonna story, she did it anyway.
