Madonna launched Confessions on a Dance Floor with an explosive live performance at KOKO in London exactly twenty years ago today.
Looking back twenty years, I still can’t believe how everything unfolded at Madonna’s KOKO album-launch show. I had gone to London without a single confirmed ticket, hoping for a miracle, and ended up waking before dawn to join the queue at Camden—eventually landing wristband number 72. I remember the cold, the rain, the media interviews, and the unexpected friendships made while waiting.
Inside the tiny KOKO venue, I managed to get third row by the catwalk. Madonna’s set—Hung Up, Get Together, I Love New York, the explosive Let It Will Be remix, and Everybody—felt raw, powerful, and unbelievably intimate. It remains one of the best performances I’ve ever witnessed.
Afterward, I bought merch, saw a few celebrities, and later discovered I’d been mentioned in the papers and even shown on Dutch TV. Two decades later, the memory of that night is still vivid—chaotic, exhausting, and absolutely unforgettable.
