Madonna is seen leaving Manhattan Civil Supreme Court in New York City on Wednesday. The singer is asking a judge to order her son return to New York from London.
One of Madonna’s sons no longer wants to live in a material world.
A judge ordered Wednesday the 15-year-old son of the pop diva and film director Guy Ritchie to return from London against his wishes.
“He has expressed very clearly that he does not want to return to New York,” Ritchie’s lawyer Eric Buckley said, regarding the son.
Madonna, appearing agitated, tried to interject, but was calmed by her lawyer Eleanor Alter.
“Has he prevented the child from returning to the U.S.?” Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Deborah Kaplan asked.
“Effectively yes,” Buckley replied.
Kaplan said the kid, Rocco Ritchie, should talk with Madonna and then revisit the issue of which parent he prefers. Kaplan said Rocco will receive his own court appointed attorney.
“I’m granting you all the relief you have requested,” Kaplan told Madonna, who cracked a smile and nodded. “I’m directing the child to be returned to New York. If he wants to stay with his father, he must return to his mother.”
She also ordered that both parents not discuss the legal proceedings with their son.
Guy Ritchie has two children with the pop diva.
One of Madonna’s security guards demanded a reporter identify herself and explain the reason for her presence in the courtroom open to the public.
The superstar singer wore a black wool fur cape, long black skirt, black shoes and put on black sunglasses once the proceeding concluded.
Madonna received the VIP treatment as she exited the courthouse. She was escorted to an elevator by court security officers, personal assistants and her own guards.
“Can I assume she’s not going to comment?” a reporter for the Daily News asked.
Madonna turned her face to the back of the elevator.
“That’s a correct assumption,” court security Captain Mike Castellano replied.
Madonna and Ritchie divorced in 2008. They also have an adopted son, David Banda, 10.
Madonna has two other children, Lourdes Leon, 19, and Mercy James, 9.
