On October 6, 1982, Madonna released her very first commercial single, “Everybody,” on Sire Records, marking the beginning of one of the most influential careers in pop music history.
Written by Madonna and produced by New York DJ Mark Kamins, the dance track originated as part of a four-song demo that Madonna promoted around New York City’s club scene. After the song received a positive response at the legendary Danceteria nightclub, Kamins helped bring it to Sire Records, leading to Madonna’s record deal.
“Everybody” became a club hit, reaching No. 3 on Billboard’s Dance/Disco chart, and was later included on her self-titled debut album in 1983.
The journey of the Queen of Pop began with one simple invitation: Dance and sing, get up and do your thing!
