MUSIKEXPRESS are publishing another very special extra with their December issue. With MUSIKEXPRESS 12/24, they are releasing a song on vinyl that changed the world 40 years ago: “Like A Virgin” by none other than the Queen of Pop, Madonna.
It is a faithful replica of the black 7-inch single from 1984, Madonna Louise Ciccone’s first megaseller. The A-side features “Like A Virgin”, her first No. 1 hit in the USA, which reached number four in Germany and number three in the UK. The B-side is Stay, the closer from the corresponding album LIKE A VIRGIN.
Madonna’s performance of “Like A Virgin” at the MTV Video Music Awards on 14 September 1984 had an immense impact and is considered as a turning point in pop culture. Her portrayal of an innocent bride, also sexually confident, broke with traditional gender roles and expectations towards women. An unprecedented milestone in feminism – shocking and inspiring. At the same time, Madonna presented a perfect pop song that has held a firm place in our collective memory for decades and made entire generations dance. Madonna became an icon overnight, paving the way for artists such as Britney Spears, Lady Gaga and Charli XCX and subsequently establishing herself as the best-selling female musician in history.
