What was initially intended to be a simple concert recording became something else entirely. Hired to film Madonna’s legendary Blond Ambition Tour in 1990, Alek Keshishian quickly realized that what went on behind the scenes was just as captivating as the stage show, and that there was material for a much more ambitious film. History would prove him right: IN BED WITH MADONNA would be a huge theatrical success.
At the time, with her world tour, the Blond Ambition Tour, the Queen of Pop shocked and fascinated. Madonna mixed religious references with sexual connotations, even simulating masturbation on stage, provoking an international scandal—in Toronto, the police even threatened to arrest her for obscenity. But beyond the controversy, she offered a grandiose spectacle, with a highly polished visual and thematic narrative, revolutionizing the entertainment industry. Her outfits, including the legendary corset with conical breasts, were designed by Jean-Paul Gaultier, a famous designer also renowned for his nonconformity. Madonna embraced her image as a free and provocative woman, establishing herself as a true priestess of the show.
The documentary IN BED WITH MADONNA offers a raw behind-the-scenes account of this legendary tour. To obtain the most authentic images possible, the cameras were often hidden, the operators blended into the set and were not allowed to speak to Madonna or her dancers. The concert clips were filmed in color, while the backstage scenes were in black and white, reinforcing the contrast between the show and reality. The result is an extraordinary insight into the star’s inner life, revealing moments of stress, joy, fatigue, but also introspection and vulnerability.
A cult documentary about one of music’s greatest icons, IN BED WITH MADONNA had never before been released on Blu-ray in France! It was time to fill this gap. Two Blu-ray editions will be available starting May 14, 2025, featuring the film in a remastered version. Bubbelpop’ offers:
