Back to the future: Madonna’s debut album, released 40 years ago today, is still pop perfection

….Madonna also drew the ire of conservative groups — always a good sign — who balked at her exposed navel and cheeky sexuality. Critics dismissed her chirpy voice. But it didn’t matter. Madonna was here to stay. 

 “Every song on that debut album is delivered. She owns that album like she had been a professional recording artist for years,” says Kimberly van Pinxteren, who runs the Madonna Underground tribute site.
