Lucy O’Brien shared details from an intimate Madonna playback session where attendees heard several new tracks from the upcoming album. According to her, the material blends house, nu-disco, Detroit techno influences, spoken word, and classic dance-pop, presented as a continuous mix with a more mature and reflective tone.
She highlighted “Danceteria” as a standout spoken-word track inspired by Madonna’s clubland memories, comparing its significance to what “Hung Up” was for Confessions on a Dance Floor — while stressing this project feels very different emotionally and creatively. Stuart Price reportedly revealed that Madonna recorded the track using the same microphone he originally bought for the first Confessions on a Dance Floor sessions, still held together with sellotape.
Other tracks mentioned included “Love Sensation,” “Good For the Soul” — described as a four-to-the-floor dance track with hints of Detroit techno — and “Fragile,” an emotional song about Christopher Ciccone featuring icy synth textures and synth strings reminiscent of “Frozen.”
O’Brien described the album’s sound as intimate and close-mic’d in places, but also soaring and cinematic. She noted that the songs heard so far seem less focused on romance and more on reflection, memory, club culture, and artistic evolution.
