Madonna Finally Got Pushed Over the ‘Borderline’, Thanks to Jimmy Fallon

Look: Madonna‘s been going on about pushing her love over the borderline for well over thirty years now. It’s about damn time someone went and pushed her already.

Inexplicably, but not undesirably, the Queen of Pop showed up during President Barack Obama’s first-ever appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon this evening (June 9) to perform a song. Rumors ran rampant this week about what she might be singing, but none of them correctly predicted a rendition of her 1984 classic, “Borderline.”

No interview, no rhyme or reason or #RebelHeartPromo — just crooning a fan favorite in front of super-fan Jimmy and company. (No doubt, she also wanted a chance to rub elbows with POTUS backstage — and perhaps offer him a free membership to Hard Candy Fitness once he’s done with the whole presidential thing.)

The performance was a solid and straightforward affair, as M passionately crooned her tune and slowly spun around the stage. It wasn’t until the very end, as Jimmy started to walk over to greet the icon, that she pulled a M-Dolla stunt, dropping to the floor with a devilish grin.

“Push me over the borderline. Push me!” she demanded of the late night host. And so, he did! Or, well…she rolled herself almost off the stage entirely. She does love a good push.

Never a dull moment when it comes to Madge. All hail!

Madonna Dazzles With Performance Of Her First Hit ‘Borderline’ On ‘The Tonight Show’

How do you follow up having the President of the United States as a guest on ‘The Tonight Show?’ By having Madonna come on and perform and that’s exactly what Jimmy Fallon did in the most epic hour of late night TV ever!

Madonna, 57, is not one to ever accept second billing at anything, but she happily played runner-up to President Barack Obama, 54, on Jimmy Fallon‘s super epic June 9 episode of The Tonight Show. Keep reading for how the pop icon performed her first hit “Borderline” for the leader of our land.

Madge looked stylish as ever, in a menswear look with a short-sleeved black satin blouse and a black and white striped necktie. She matched it with a pair of black and white checkered trousers and black gloves and looked so stylish and fabulous. She had a major treat in store for her fans, as she sang her first ever top 10 hitBorderline, and the audience went completely crazy. The song is such a classic and she sounds even better than when it first came out way back in 1983.

She did a slow and sexy version of the classic song, with simple backings but it made the timeless tune seem super modern. On a show where she came on right after the President of the United States, it was the perfect tone. She didn’t even do any of her intense dance moves, just showcasing how her voice has grown in the 33 years since the song came out.

While her performance was amazing for viewers, her appearance marked a special personal milestone as she finally got to meet the president for the first time. Even though she campaigned for President Obama over the years, she still never met him until their epic Tonight Show encounter, Instagramming how the encounter left her “speechless.” Stream Madonna’s music, completely unlimited and ad-free, RIGHT HERE.

She told Us weekly in 2015 that, “The person I most want to meet is President Obama. When the heck am I going to meet him? He just needs to invite me to the White House already. He probably thinks I’m too shocking to be there,” but Jimmy helped make her dream come true by booking them together on his show.

madonna will sing classic hit borderline with jimmy fallon and barack obama

Longtime Madonna fans can rejoice — the Queen of Pop is scheduled to perform her first top-ten hit “Borderline” on The Tonight Show, which is hosted by Jimmy Fallon. The other special guest will be President Barack Obama, a man Madonna has endorsed for years. After all, she even celebrated his victory on November 4, 2008, when she played a show at Petco Park in San Diego.

In 2015, Madonna told Us Weekly that the one person she still wants to meet is Barack Obama.

“The person I most want to meet is President Obama. When the heck am I going to meet him? He just needs to invite me to the White House already. He probably thinks I’m too shocking to be there. I’m serious. If I was a little bit more demure … or if I was just married to Jay Z. Hey, if Jay would only take me as his second wife, then I’d score an invitation.”
Even though Madonna was obviously joking about the Jay Z thing (they’re friends), she still angered some people who took her literally. But that doesn’t matter because Madonna’s dreams came true yesterday.

Some people who attended the taping of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon reported that Madonna sang her 1984 hit, “Borderline,” which is a dream come true for longtime Madonna fans. However, not every fan was happy. Fans on different sites, such as Madonnatribe, wanted her to either sing a new song or a “bigger” hit. However, even though “Borderline” only peaked at No. 10, it is actually one of the biggest hits of her career.

As Billboard notes, “Borderline,” along with “Take a Bow,” is Madonna’s longest-running Hot 100 hit, spending 30 weeks on the chart. The reason it didn’t chart higher was because back in the Summer of 1984, many major radio stations — especially in the midwest — didn’t start playing “Borderline” until it peaked. It ended up at No. 35 on the 1984 year-end charts and beat out some songs that actually hit No. 1.
“Borderline” also began what Billboard describes as one of the longest streaks of top-ten hits in music history. After “Borderline,” Madonna scored 16 more top ten hits that lasted until the end of 1989 with “Cherish.” The fourth single from Like a Prayer, “Oh Father,” ended that streak by only peaking at No. 20. Still Madonna scored 21 more top ten hits after that and holds the record for the most top-ten hits out of any musical artist in history.

Despite some fans not recognizing the importance of “Borderline,” other Madonna fans on Twitter are very excited.

Let’s hope that Madonna doesn’t encounter the same criticism for singing “Borderline” as she did when she sang “Nothing Compares 2 U” and “Purple Rain” at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards last month. As the Inquisitr noted a couple weeks back, Madonna actually received many fantastic reviews right after the performance. Lyndsey Parker of Yahoo said Madonna’s tribute was nothing short of stunning.

“Perhaps it was these artists’ overlapping discographies of overtly lovesexy material that had some detractors worried that Madonna’s show-closing BBMAs tribute would be some sort of shamelessly R-rated spectacle … But instead, Madonna gave a tasteful, gimmick-free, uncharacteristically subdued performance that demonstrated great respect for her old friend’s legacy.”

However, while there were certainly some who legitimately didn’t like the performance on Twitter, many turned the performance into a race issue and condemned both Billboard and Madonna for not letting a black artist honor Prince. Madonna fought back and said that people should feel welcomed to do a Prince tribute no matter what their skin color, gender, or age is. Perhaps Madonna’s performance of “Borderline” tonight won’t be as controversial, especially since she is singing her own classic song.

15 years ago today! Drowned World Tour kicks off in Barcelona

It has been fifteen years since Madonna kicked off her fantastic Drowned World Tour in Barcelona in 2001. Even though the tour was originally planned to premiere in Cologne Germany, due to technical issues the premiere was postponed to Barcelona and sadly Cologne was cancelled.

Expectations were high as it hadn’t been since 1993 that Madonna embarked on her last world tour ‘The Girlie Show’, she far exceeded those expectations. The reviews were outstanding and it was so overwhelming for the fans to finally see her doing what she does best on stage. The Drowned World Tour was a very dark but intimate show, her most theatrical to date and far ahead of its time. Even though she mostly played songs off Ray Of Light and Music, the show was so spectacular that it was like witnessing true storytelling on stage (that geisha section was far beyond anything she’s ever done before).

To reflect we have some links for you to visit and revisit that fantastic tour:
