Hot enough for ya? From the constant heat of Florida to the Midwest scorchers and finally the triple-digit temperatures in the Southwest, 2017 has been another year of burning up, but it’s nothing new as in the ’80s we were Burning Upwith Madonna.
For the longest time we didn’t profile Madonna on Lost and Found until 2016 when we spotlighted Gambler. Today we go back to 1983 for the single Burning Up that gets very little airplay on retro radio stations.
Even though most heard Burning Up first as an album track on Madonna’s 1983 self-titled release, her humble beginnings started off a year earlier with two singles. Both Everybody from 1982 and Burning Up from 1983 did not hit the pop charts but were big hits on the NYC clubs with Burning Up hitting No. 3 on Billboard Dance Charts.
The video for Burning Up is considered the start of the Madonna image with her DYI fashions such as wearing typewriter belts as bracelets. It was also the beginning of the Madonna sexual image of being the woman in charge always getting the upper hand against her male suitors. In the Burning Up video, Madonna’s then-boyfriend Ken Compton plays the man in the sports car who presumably gets bamboozled by Madonna in the end as Madonna goes from writhing on the road to driving Compton’s vehicle.
After Madonna’s very public vocal disapproval of President Trump at the beginning of the year, 2017 has seen very little of Madonna, probably since in March she adopted 4-year-old twin girls from Malawi.

Amazon has released its summer 2017 report showing differences in how customers from different regions spend their money.
It says Geordies went mad for Madonna’s compilation DVD The Immaculate Collection.
The giant retailer says: “Madonna was in vogue with customers in Newcastle as they got into the groove and snapped up copies of the material girl’s greatest hits DVD compilation.”
It also recorded how Galaxy Smooth is the country’s most favourite chocolate while here in the North East we prefer good old-fashioned Kit Kats.
Amazon use the data from customer’s orders not just to work out the most popular purchases but also to help steer retail trends in the future.
We can expect to use Amazon more to buy fresh fruit and veg while more small and medium sized businesses, including those in the North East, are exporting their products through Amazon Marketplace.

Madonna posted a clip of her rehearsing Open Your Heart on her official Instagram account, many speculate as to what she is rehearsing for.
However Madonna is due to make a ‘special apperance’ at the Leonardo Dicaprio Foundation Gala in St-Tropez on July 26. She has just begun following Leonardo Dicaprio on Instagram, so this might confirm her special appearance. Check out PageSix for more on the event.
We have just added this very rare Dutch booklet titled ‘That’s The Girl’ to the memorabilia section of the Who’s That Girl Tour.
This four page booklet was issued by Dutch music retailer Free Record Shop and sponsored by chewing gum brand Ben-Bits, in order to promote Madonna’s upcoming live performances in Rotterdam. Very rarely seen and very hard to find. The booklet contains an order form for her music and video catalogue, a short biography and various pictures of her Miami performance during the tour. It is clear that it’s sponsored by Ben-Bits as there are various ads inside. The back cover contains another promo for Ben-Bits promoting the fact that by buying 3 packages of their chewing gum you were able to buy a Madonna door poster for only five guilders (around 2 euro’s) at Free Record Shop (Virgin Tour image and photosession white shirt, long hair wig).
Very nice piece of Madonna memorabilia! Check it out HERE
Madonna‘s ex-boyfriend says the worn panties she sent him back in the day will hit the auction block despite legal issues, but if she wants them back … a deal can be arranged.
We got Peter Shue — who briefly dated the Queen of Pop in 1994 — out in Harlem and asked him about the controversy over Madonna items going up for auction … including the panties. His take — she gave him her worn underwear as a gift, so they’re his … and he can do whatever he wants with them.
Shue seems to think a judge blocking the auction won’t hold up, and Madge can place a bid like anyone else to win her panties back. Or she can call him directly … if she still has his number.

NEW YORK — An impending auction of pop star Madonna’s personal items, including a love letter from her ex-boyfriend the late rapper Tupac Shakur, a pair of previously worn underwear and a hairbrush containing her hair, was halted by a judge on Tuesday.
Manhattan state Supreme Court Judge Gerald Leibovitz ordered Gotta Have It! Collectibles to pull 22 items from its rock-‘n’-roll-themed auction scheduled for Wednesday.
The Like a Prayer singer had earlier sought an emergency court order saying she was “shocked to learn” of the planned online auction of the Tupac letter and had no idea it was no longer in her possession.
“The fact that I have attained celebrity status as a result of success in my career does not obviate my right to maintain my privacy, including with regard to highly personal items,” Madonna said in court papers. “I understand that my DNA could be extracted from a piece of my hair. It is outrageous and grossly offensive that my DNA could be auctioned for sale to the general public.”
Court papers said the Tupac letter was expected to fetch up to $400,000. Tupac, one of the best-selling rappers of all time, dated Madonna in the early 1990s and died of injuries suffered in a Las Vegas drive-by shooting in 1996.
Madonna, behind such hit songs as “Material Girl” and “Vogue,” has sold hundreds of millions of albums. Other Madonna items scheduled to be auctioned were private photographs taken at a bachelorette party at her Miami home, personal letters and cassette tapes of unreleased recordings.
Madonna’s court papers name Darlene Lutz, a former friend, art consultant and “frequent overnight guest” in Madonna’s home when she was “not in residence,” as behind the sale of the property.
A spokesman for Lutz and the auction house said the allegations will be “vigorously challenged and refuted” in court.
“Madonna and her legal army have taken what we believe to be completely baseless and meritless action to temporarily halt the sale of Ms. Lutz’s legal property,” spokesman Pete Siegel told the New York Post. “We are confident that the Madonna memorabilia will be back.”

Madonna files for emergency court order to stop auction selling prison letter from Tupac Shakur, her ‘personally worn panties’
She’s a “material girl” — and those are her materials.
Madonna sought an emergency court order Tuesday barring an auction house from putting an array of her memorabilia up for sale, including her private letters, “personally worn panties” and a handwritten letter to her from her former boyfriend Tupac Shakur while he was in prison.
In an affidavit, the singer says that on July 8 she became aware of the planned auction by Gotta Have Rock and Roll of many of her belongings, which she thought were still in her possession.
“I became aware through media reports that there was a planned auction of extremely personal, private correspondence I received from a former boyfriend, the late recording artist and actor Tupac Shakur,” Madonna said.
“I was shocked to learn of the planned auctioning of the Shakur Letter, as I had no idea that the Shakur Letter was no longer in my possession. I have never sold, gifted, transferred or otherwise disposed of the Shakur Letter.”
The papers seek an order from a judge halting the online auction, scheduled for Wednesday, of more than 100 items.
Madonna points the finger at Darlene Lutz, an art consultant and “former friend” who she had welcomed into her homes.
“It seems obvious that Defendant Lutz betrayed my trust in an outrageous effort to obtain my possessions without my knowledge or consent and now attempts to profit by auctioning off my personal belongings and private communications to the general public in complete disregard of my rights, especially my right to privacy,” the “Material Girl” singer said.
The suit says the items include private letters and other correspondence between Madonna, her family and celebrities and former boyfriends, private photographs, unreleased recordings, a personal checkbook, previously worn underwear and a hairbrush with the singer’s hair.

Prince and Madonna Hook Up for a ‘Love Song’: 365 Prince Songs in a Year by Dave Lifton July 16, 2017 11:35 AM Read More: Prince and Madonna Hook Up for a ‘Love Song’: 365 Prince Songs in a Year
To celebrate the incredibly prolific, influential and diverse body of work left behind by Prince, we will be exploring a different song of his each day for an entire year with the series 365 Prince Songs in a Year.
On the strength of sheer star power alone, a collaboration between Prince and Madonna in 1989 would have been a huge smash single. And yet, they buried “Love Song,” their collaboration from her hit album Like a Prayer.
Granted, in the title track, “Express Yourself” “Cherish” and “Keep It Together” — all of which reached the Top 10 (and the Top 20 “Oh Father”) — she was hardly lacking for radio-friendly material. Maybe it’s because the track is hardly a high mark in either of their careers. “Love Song” has a typically solid late-’80s Prince groove that suits Madonna well and a decent chorus, but there’s no vocal chemistry between the two.
“We were friends and talked about working together,” she told Yahoo Music in 2014, “so I went to Minneapolis to write some stuff with him, but the only thing I really dug was ‘Love Song.’ We ended up writing it long-distance, because I had to be in L.A. and he couldn’t leave Minneapolis, and quite frankly I couldn’t stand Minneapolis. When I went there, it was like 20 degrees below zero, and it was really desolate. I was miserable and I couldn’t write or work under those circumstances.”
It’s been suggested that Prince also contributed guitar to several other songs on Like a Prayer, but co-producer Patrick Leonard could only remember that he plays on a portion of the title track.
“When you start ‘Like a Prayer,’ the guitar that you hear before the door slams,” Leonard told Billboard. “That’s Prince. … [Madonna] sent him something to play on and he played on it and sent it back. And we didn’t feel that what he did served it. … There’s a heavy guitar in the choruses and when I heard it, I thought, ‘Did we use his guitar in those bridges?’ Because the sound is similar to the first sound [in the opening], but it’s not exactly the same. … But I know for a fact that we did use that [Prince] thing as the intro, because we just thought it was crazy and really cool. I seem to recall that that’s all we used, but I could be wrong.”
Prince and Madonna’s friendship seems to have had its ups and downs. It’s been rumored that they dated for a few months in the mid-’80s, but five years after “Love Song” she had some harsh words for the way that both he and Michael Jackson created a veil of mystery around themselves. “If they would just come outside and mingle with humanity,” she told the Los Angeles Times, “everything would benefit – their art, and whatever relationships they may have. … I had dinner with Prince once, and he was just sipping tea, very daintily. I was stuffing food down my face and I was like, ‘Aren’t you going to eat?’ [She mimics a delicate, whispered “no.”] And I thought, ‘Oh my God!’ I have this theory about people who don’t eat. They annoy me. It’s something about being in control.”
In 1996 Prince released “Dinner With Delores,” which could possibly have been about Madonna. In addition to making fun of the titular character’s appetite (both for food and sex), he sang about a woman whose “bell’s just a-broken since 1984 / Dancing like a white girl on disco dirty floors” and implored her to “introduce the carpet to something other than your knees.”
But even though, in the lyrics, he was unable to forgive “Delores,” Prince and Madonna apparently made up. After his death, her tour manager Guy Oseary posted a picture of the three of them from 1999 and revealed that, a few years ago, he floated the idea of a Madonna/Prince “Royalty Tour” past the two of them. Madonna was up for it, but Prince’s response was, “The world isn’t ready for this, it’s too big.”
Oseary also said that, after Madonna’s concert in St. Paul in 2015, which included a shoutout to him, Prince invited everybody back to Paisley Park for a late-night performance. “After the sixth song of the set,” reported the Current, “Prince leaned down and whispered something back and forth with Madonna, and then hopped back up to his keyboards and simply said, ‘Cool.’”
Madonna’s first worldwide remix album ‘You Can Dance’ was widely advertised mentioning that it contained one brand new song titled ‘Spotlight‘. Originally planned to be the new single, eventually was only commercially released in Japan.
We have collected 8 different pressings of this (promo) single for you to view in our discography.
