Madonna is starting your week off with a big announcement.
The 60-year-old singer took to social media on Monday to announce her brand-album Madame X.
Fans had a feeling new music was on the way after Madonna posted a few cryptic clues on social media, including several shots that comprised a giant “X.”
While the seven-time Grammy winner kept most of the details about the new music under wraps, she did share a few details with her fans. Here’s a breakdown of everything we know so far.
Who is Madame X? Earlier this week, Madonna posted a description of the mysterious figure on social media.
“Madame X is a secret agent traveling around the world. Changing identities. Fighting for freedom. Bringing the light to dark places. She is a cha cha instructor. A professor. A head of state. A housekeeper. An equestrian. A prisoner. A student. A teacher. A nun. A cabaret singer. A saint. A prostitute,” she wrote.
The music icon also posted a video about the mysterious figure.
What kind of songs will she sing? While the complete track list has yet to be revealed, Madonna did drop the name of one new single—”Medellin.”
Will there be any collaborations? You bet! The “Vogue” singer is teaming up with Maluma for “Medellin.”
When will the new music be released? Madonna’s fans won’t have to wait long to hear the new music. According to her social media accounts, the new single will be released April 17. So mark your calendars!
How long has it been since her last album release? This marks the first album Madonna has released since Rebel Heart, which she dropped in 2015.
Madonna has returned! The legendary singer is a globe-traveling secret agent for a nefarious corporation, her face the same composition as a stone in the trailer for Madame X, a new album that’s set to drop. It’s a hell of an announcement that signals the theatricality the world loves from Madonna. Her return is sure to be a grand one. There’s a snippet of music in here to give you just a taste.
The video, titled “Welcome to the World of Madame X” is a minute long and paints a picture of this spy-thriller world where The Bourne Identity meets Salt. Madonna has many faces and many names and wears some leather gloves that hint at nefarious intentions. Our favorite look is the suit and eyepatch combo. It’s very Bond villainous and lets us know that Madame X will be an extravagant adventure. Something well worth the wait. The snippet of chilling vocals played at the beginning could be an indicator of the direction that the album will go.
Madame X follows Madonna’s 2015 album Rebel Heart. It’s finally time to revisit the heroic singer’s world. Things are moved around this time for the better, designed to intrigue. For now, all we have is a snippet to latch on to; that, and a trailer of looks and identities. Madame X will be a mysterious return to form.

Alright stans, listen up. Madonna, after three years of musical silence (excluding a jingle about condomsand a collab with Quavo and Cardi B) following 2015’s Rebel Heart, has announced her new album: Madame X. It’s already clear that it’s going to be a massive spectacle and a new transformation.
Fans have been guessing an album announce was on the way since early April, when Madge started filling up her grid with a giant red X. A week ago, she started posting puzzle pieces tiles of a document listing the many sides of the mysterious “Madame X.” In a video trailer, Madonna confirms that Madame X is the title and leading lady of the fourteenth record of her career.
Here’s what we know about “Madame X,” the woman and the album:
‘Madame X’ is a concept project.
The album takes place in the world of the eponymous Madame X. In the trailer, Madonna introduces us to this world, which is dark and shadowy, taking unsubtle cues from spy film (James Bond, most obviously) and noir cinema. She dramatically stubs a cigarette out in a martini glass, punches away at a typewriter in leather gloves and transforms into 10 different looks (including sunglasses and a trench, a bonnet, an eye patch and a cowboy hat — Madonna’s next yeehaw moment, imminent?). The only dialogue in the clip is, “I decided to call my record Madame X,” which she tells a table full of men. The clip was created by video artist Nuno Zico and photographer Steven Klein, who it seems likely she’s working with on the full body of album imagery.
Madame X, the character, is a Carmen Sandiego-esque international spy and femme fatale.
Well, Madame X is apparently a lot of things (many hats!). Here’s the full list: “I’m a secret agent. Traveling around the world. Changing identities. Fighting for freedom. Bringing light to dark places. She is a dancer. A professor. A head of state. A housekeeper. An equestrian. A prisoner. A student. A mother. A child. A teacher. A nun. A singer. A saint. A whore. The spy in the house of love. I’m Madame X.”
The first single is with Maluma.
In a global collab fitting for an international global spy, Madonna is teaming up with the Colombian reggaeton star. Their collab is called “Medellin” (like the city) and it’s out on Wednesday. Both artists shared the luxuriant single art on Instagram.
“This seems incredible, I still can not believe it, but it IS a REALITY !! On April 17 we release our song called #MEDELLIN,” Maluma shared.

Madonna took to social media on Monday (Apr. 15) to announce the new collab, which will be titled “Medellin.” The superstar made the announcement posting the single cover, where she is sitting next to Maluma wearing a wedding dress.
Back in February, both superstars surprised their fans by sharing photos of themselves together in the recording studio. “I met Madonna during the VMAs in New York,” Maluma previously told Billboard. “After that, I had the opportunity to spend some time with her in Los Angeles. She was in the studio and I joined her.”
On Saturday, Madonna also revealed the title to her upcoming album, Madame X, and shared its concept in a cryptic post on Twitter and Instagram.

Madonna’s long-awaited fourteenth album, her first since 2015’s Rebel Heart, will be titled Madame X.
Little is known about the record, though it is thought the music has been inspired by Madge’s new life in Lisbon, Portugal.

Say goodbye to Madonna and hello to Madame X.
The Queen of Pop is back with Madame X, her first album in four years, which she teased on Instagram, Monday, in a sultry video that has her assuming various identities.
Madame X is a “secret agent traveling around the world, changing identities, fighting for freedom, bringing light to dark places,” Madonna says in the clip.
The singer, 60, can also be seen in a variety of different disguises, like a white dress with a cowboy hat and a black collared top with cropped black hair.
A snippet of new music plays in the background, featuring lyrics like, “The thing that hurt the most is that I wasn’t lost.”
Madonna continued to tease the long-awaited record on Instagram, first filling her entire feed with a large red “X” against a black background, and later sharing a larger version of a note featured in the clip that reads, “She is a cha cha instructor, a professor, a head of state, a housekeeper, an equestrian, a prisoner, a student, a teacher, a nun, a cabaret singer, a saint, a prostitute.”
The star also shared two additional, silent videos that feature her first playing guitar, and then the accordion.
“What song is Madame X playing……….,” she captioned the post.
Madame X will be Madonna’s first new album since dropping Rebel Heart in 2015.
She’s been teasing new music for the past several months, and in November 2018, shared a video of herself playing with an Instagram filter as she listened to “final mixes.”
“Final Mixes………….🎶♥️. Everything needs to be 💯!” she wrote on Instagram.
She later confirmed her 14th album was in the works in January, when she shared an Instagram video of a prayer at the end of a recording session.
“So lucky to have these amazing powerful women on my record,” she wrote of the Portuguese Batukadeiras Orchestra.
Madonna will likely re-team with producer Mirwais, who previously worked on her albums Music, American Life and Confessions on a Dance Floor.
He hinted at a collaboration on Instagram last week, sharing a photo of the American Life album cover with the caption, “n e X t,” presumably a Madame X clue.

Every year my brother in law Sander and me go to Velvet Music in Amsterdam. We met up later than usual at 7:30am in front of the store. To be honest I was there already at 07:15, too excited to wait at home. There was one guy in front of me, slowly more people arrived. We found out that we all wanted something else and decided to help each other to get the desired items. Which was doable because only 10 people were allowed in as pairs to get into the store.
As soon as the shop opened almost everybody found the items they wanted. For me of course the 2 Madonna releases, and I got my hand on the only copy of Robyn’s Bodytalk white vinyl.
It was a fun morning, chatting about music and the passion of collecting. Straight after I needed to go to work, so it was a long day.
Certain discrete corners of the internet lost their collective minds earlier this month when Madonna’s Instagram page, alternately littered with posts featuring the singer’s adopted twin daughters or snapshots of her recent photo and video shoots, was taken over by nine indivudal images comprising a large red “X.” The typically prolific celebrity ‘grammer remained relatively quiet over the next two weeks, intermittently posting images of the letter X in her stories, and slowly revealing the manifesto for Madame X, her first album in four years:
The album’s lead single, which could be out as soon as this week, is rumored to be a duet with Colombian reggaeton singer Maluma, but details are scarce. The secretiveness surrounding the project isn’t surprising given that Madonna has been the victim of rampant leaks since at least the turn of the century. The studio recordings for her last album, 2015’s Rebel Heart, leaked like a sieve, resulting in the arrest of an Israeli hacker.
This time out, the queen of pop has successfully kept things under wraps, but it seems that Madame X—a character perhaps inspired by the 1966 film of the same name starring Lana Turner—is ready for her close-up.

“Madame X is a secret agent. Traveling around the world. Changing identities. Fighting for freedom. Bringing light to dark places. She is a dancer. A professor. A head of state. A housekeeper. An equestrian. A prisoner. A student. A mother. A child. A teacher. A nun. A singer. A saint. A whore. The spy in the house of love. I’m Madame X.”
Madonna did not share any other details about her forthcoming 14th studio LP, her first since 2015’s Rebel Heart. However, the singer will likely provide more information before she performs during the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in May.
