30 years ago, in true Madonna fashion, the pop sensation grasped the world’s attention with her tour documentary Madonna: Truth or Dare. Three decades later and she still has our full attention with the anniversary celebration for that film that’s taking place on Halloween weekend.
There will be a showing of the film, which documents Madonna’s Blond Ambition tour, at Exposition Park in Los Angeles on October 28. But the party doesn’t stop there—before the screening, there will also be a live vogue ball hosted by Legendary Damon and emcee Shaun Ross, with music provided by MAAD and Val Fleury. Post-film there, of course, will be a dance party—all dedicated to Madonna—along with Italian food. Chic!
MADAME X will air in full on MTV Nederland on October 9 according to my recent conversation with ViacomCBS. The special has a duration of 116:53 minutes.
The “Madame X Tour” promoted Madonna’s last album of the same name, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 in 2019. At the concerts, you could hear songs from the latest album, there were also famous hits and songs that are the most popular among listeners. The queen of pop on stage played the role of Madame X – “traveling around the world, changing identities, fighting for freedom and bringing light to dark places” of a secret agent. The linguistically diverse album, inspired by the life of an artist immersed in the rich cultural influences of Lisbon, is like a love letter to diversity and a testimony to and respect for Madonna’s changing influence on global culture.
MTV Portugal will premiere the documentary “Madame X” on October 8, at 20:00, the same day it is shown in the United States. The documentary by Ricardo Gomes, the Portuguese photographer and videographer who has accompanied the artist for over two years, includes behind-the-scenes clips from Madonna’s 2019 and 2020 tour, and a look at the artist’s physical problems in her hip and knee. , which led her to cancel shows in the US, UK and Portugal, forcing the end of the tour three days before the scheduled date, also coinciding with the restrictions imposed by the pandemic.
During the height of Ricky Martin’s career, he recorded a song with Madonna. This song was supposed to be a single and the two singers were going to film a music video for the track. Neither of these things ever happened. During interviews, Martin revealed what he thought when Madonna wanted to release a single with him and he revealed some details about the video that was never filmed.
I got a call from my London agent, who asked me whether I was sitting down. He said Madonna wanted to play the lead in Up for Grabs in the West End and I would need to come to London before rehearsals started, as she wanted “changes”. If I didn’t come, the producer said, sounding worried, Madonna might decide to “walk”.
It wasn’t a great time for me to be travelling, as the minor heart attack of a few years before was still causing me regular and sometimes quite debilitating bouts of atrial fibrillation. I’d been hospitalised twice and fed intravenous amiodarone to pull me out of it. Nevertheless, when the Queen of Pop says she’ll star in a West End production of one of my plays if I go to London, I go to London. I spent a lot of time in the plane reading about her and memorising the names of a list of pop hits I’d never heard.
Madonna states on her Instagram that another surprise performance is coming up soon!
