Katy Perry was the guest curator for January on Madonna’s Art for Freedom platform and on Friday, her last day on the job, the “Unconditional” singer posted a public-service announcement from the group (We Are) #GayPropaganda, which is shining a light on the plight of Russia’s LGBT community.

(We Are) #GayPropaganda is encouraging Twitter and Instagram users to redefine “gay propaganda” by adding the hash-tag #GayPropaganda to photos, artwork and storytelling.

Madonna launched Art For Freedom in conjunction with Vice magazine as a “a global initiative encouraging creative expression” to raise awareness around human-rights violations. “I am so fortunate to have the freedom to express myself through music,” said Perry. “I believe that 2014 can be a year of great social change. Together we can all stand up for human rights. Join the conversation, and let your art be your voice.”

  • In 1984 we thought she was simply outrageous, how dare she roll around the stage like THAT?! she will NEVER last, she is NOT the new Cyndi Lauper
  • In 1985 parents wanted to put a ban on Madonna as all their children started to dress like her, underwear as outer wear? NO WAY!!
  • In 1986 she DARED to promote abortion, how DARE she??!! And girl…..why did you lose weight? or cut your hair? you look like a boy now. Don’t even get me started on Shanghai Surprise!!
  • In 1987 Europe finally got to see her perform live, her live singing sucks!! how dare she?!
  • In 1988 we couldn’t find Madonna, oh wait she was in a theater? Oh man….that sucked, she is a lesbian now? Kissing Sandra Berhnard and all that??
  • In 1989 Madonna was a member of the KKK, yes because she was dancing in front of burning crosses, but then she kissed a black jesus? what a hypocrite she is!
  • In 1990 She dared to wear corsets on stage (again) and masturbated on a bed singing like a virgin?? We have to BAN her!! We have to make sure that her shows are canceled!

  • In 2013 you are the best paid female entertainer without doing anything at all, how is that possible? Lady Gaga has disappeared due to a made up hip injury, you see she wasn’t selling…..
  • In 2014 M you are OLD, you are old, you are old, you are old, you’re desperate, performing with Miley? How desperate. And oh yeah….you are old, you cannot wear those clothes, they’re too young for you. Lady Gaga…who’s that?

Rumor = Valley Of The Dolls remake – Madonna playing the aging Broadway star!

The bitchy, sexy and over the top drama of “Valley of the Dolls” – the 1967 movie based on the mega-smash 1966 novel by Jaqueline Susann – is set to make its “return” to the big screen via 20th Century Fox.

Patty Duke, Sharon Tate, and Barbara Parkins starred in the original movie, the story of three women’s rise, fall and pill popping tirades (the pills were called “Dolls.”) The film was set in New York’s theatre world and Hollywood movie biz.

The “new” Valley of the Dolls, will have a decidedly different “spin” on the original with L.A.’s music business being a big part of the story, particularly with the Neely O’Hara character (Patty Duke) the up and coming star who makes it big and has a major fall from grace. One of the writers of the new VOTD is Paul Rudnick, who did the “First Wives Club” and “In and Out” (such a funny Kevin Kline movie!) There will be a dark comedy aspect to the film.

Actresses on the “A List” for this movie are Anne Hathaway, perfect as the prim Anne Welles, Jennifer Lawrence as Jennifer North (the fallen Angel played by Sharon Tate) and Emmy Rossum as Neely O’ Hara (perfect casting!!) and producers are lobbying hard to get Madonna to play the aging Broadway star Helen Lawson, a role intended for Judy Garland in the original movie

Local music buff hosts Madonna presentation in hopes of correcting myths, garnering attention for Material Girl’s Bay City connection

BAY CITY, MI — Bay County music historian Gary Johnson recalls making the trip to Cleveland in 2008 to watch Bay City’s most famous daughter inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Though the induction ceremony was conducted in New York City, it was broadcast live at the hall’s Ohio museum.

Johnson says it was a thrill to see Madonna’s name appear on the screen, with the subheading of “Bay City, Michigan” just before Justin Timberlake inducted music’s biggest female pop star.

“She racked up the greatest track record in music history — 47 top 40 hits,” Timberlake said in his speech. “This is a singing, dancing, writing, promoting, achieving superstar who became the biggest name on the planet the old fashioned way — she earned it.”

Johnson concurs, and believes it’s a shame Bay City hasn’t done more to capitalize on Madonna’s legacy.

“No one has given Bay City more publicity over the years than Madonna,” said Johnson. “Every one of those hundreds of Madonna sites on the Internet, you click on her biography and within the first two sentences, there’s Bay City, Michigan.”

Folklore and myths surround Madonna and her relationship with her hometown — it’s said she refused to accept a key to the city and that she badmouthed the community to the national press. The truth behind these stories, and whether the estrangement between Bay City and Madonna can be reconciled, is a topic Johnson intends to examine with a forthcoming seminar hosted by the Bay County Historical Society.

The exhibition is being held at the Bay County Historical Museum, 321 Washington Ave., on Saturday, Feb. 8. The event starts at noon with an hour-long selection of 14 of the Material Girl’s seminal music videos. At 1 p.m., Johnson is conducting a presentation entitled “The Madonna Controversy.”

“Over the years, the tales have been twisted,” Johnson said. “Madonna has always spoken fondly of Bay City, except for one occasion.”

That occasion took place in 1987 when, in an interview with Jane Pauley on NBC, the star referred to Bay City as “a little smelly town in northern Michigan.”

“I find it hard to believe she said this in a hateful way,” Johnson said. “It was probably more in a light-hearted way.”

She may be more than twice his age, but Madonna is not embarrassed about flaunting her new puppy love.

The 55-year-old star took her boyfriend Timor Steffens out for the first time on American soil on Tuesday night.
The couple have only been spotted only a few times since it was revealed the iconic pop star had found herself a new younger dancer.

The star first debuted Timor – who is just a year older than her last boy toy, dancer Brahim Zaibat – during a New Year’s Eve bash in Europe.
In town for the Grammys and a duet with Miley Cyrus, Madonna has been very busy of late so went low key for the mid-week date.

The new couple headed to a sushi restaurant in Beverly Hills, California, dressing from the same colour palette.
Timor – who lives in Los Angeles but is from the Netherlands – donned a long black woolen trench coat over a pair of black slightly shiny jeans with matching coloured trainers.

Madonna will introduce Masha and Nadya, two members of Russia’s Pussy Riot art collective, at Amnesty International’s Bringing Human Rights Home concert taking place at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Wednesday February 5, it was announced today by Amnesty International.

“I am honored to introduce my fellow freedom fighters Masha and Nadya from Pussy Riot. I have admired their courage and have long supported their commitment and the sacrifices they have made in the name of freedom of expression and human rights,” commented Madonna.

Tickets are on sale from Ticketmaster. Other confirmed acts include Imagine Dragons, The Flaming Lips, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Tegan and Sara, The Fray, Cold War Kids, Colbie Caillat and Cake. Masha and Nadya were imprisoned for their participation in the Pussy Riot art collective. Hundreds of thousands of online actions by Amnesty International supporters helped bring about their freedom.

Madonna, a longstanding defender of the Pussy Riot art collective’s right to speak out in defiance of restrictions in their homeland, is part of a star-studded tradition of prominent artists using the power of music to articulate their support for human rights on behalf of Amnesty International.
