Dear Madonna: Why you should never change

Dear Madonna,

I owe you an apology.

For several weeks I’ve been thinking of writing you an open letter and, until the moment I wrote it, I was going to ask you to change.

Your wardrobe, videos and words linked to the latest “Rebel Heart” tour have attracted negative criticism, and I almost joined the majority.

I was going to confess that I grew up on your music. From wearing lace gloves when I was 5 years old to recently listening to your songs while dancing with friends, your voice has been well represented on the soundtrack of my life.

But as I grew up, you seemingly did not.

You’re 22 years older than me. That didn’t seem like such a big deal when I was 5 and you were 27. Then, somehow, I became 34 and you reached 56, and I just wanted to give you a hug and say, “So, maybe you should put the fishnets under a pencil skirt.”

I was wrong.

You’ve made a career out of raising eyebrows with hits “Like a Virgin,” “Papa Don’t Preach,” “Like a Prayer,” “Erotica,” “Justify My Love,” not to mention every relationship you’ve ever had.

Those were all number one songs, by the way.

And fans are paying more this year to see you on the Rebel Heart tour than they did three years ago.

Music reviews in Rolling Stone have called you and your art a “provocative extravaganza.”

You made headlines for several other things too: the kiss with Britney Spears, saying you wanted to go on a date with Drake and falling off stage during the recent Brit Awards. And those are just a few things from the 2000s.

There are plenty of things from the 80s and 90s that prove you were waging a war against racism, sexism, hate crimes and bigotry long before the listeners were brave enough to loudly stand up with you.

You have a history of proving if anyone in the room is going to be uncomfortable, it’s not going to be you.

And I love that about you.

I still believe a little discretion goes a long way, but I love that someone like you is out there.

I love that you’re 56, and still bold and unafraid to show up at the Grammys with more cleavage than women 30 years younger than you.

You have a history of proving if anyone in the room is going to be uncomfortable, it’s not going to be you.

It seems to me your latest war is against sexism and ageism – and rightfully so.

Nobody makes a big deal of it when 56-year-old male rock stars date 20-year-old women. It’s not just accepted, it’s expected.

But you’re a 56-year-old woman in America. That means you can’t date someone as young as Drake, who is 28.

Nobody writes about how 71-year-old Rolling Stones stars Keith Richards and Mick Jagger are still wearing tight leather pants – and, really, who is going to tell them no?

But you’re a 56-year-old woman in America. That means how you look and what you wear will always be under heavy scrutiny.

It means because you are a mother of four, you cannot be sexual.

It means it doesn’t matter if you built 10 schools in Malawi.

It means Piers Morgan can say, “Falling off the stage, Madonna, is God’s way of telling you you’re too old to cavort like a hooker.”

(But I wouldn’t worry about Mr. Morgan. He survived less air time on CNN than Dog the Bounty Hunter.)

It means middle-aged men and suburban moms get to judge you and say, “Put it away. Your age is showing.”

And I love that you keep saying “No.”

You will not be silenced. This is not a stunt. This is who you are. This is who you’ve always been.

You are the woman who made a mockery of the wedding dress, made the cone bra famous and taught us to vogue. Of course you’re wearing fishnets and thongs in public when you’re 56.

I won’t be doing it, but I’m glad you are.

So to amend my previous error in judgment, let me offer my sincerest apology for trying to make you fit into a severely outdated perception.

Don’t put it away now, Madonna. Your awesome is showing.

Love,

Candy

Philippines, are you ready for Madonna?

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) Yes, you read that right – the Material Girl will turn Manila into a material world early next year.

A source told CNN Philippines Digital early Thursday (July 2) that promoters of Madonna’s highly-anticipated ‘Rebel Heart Tour’ have included Manila in the concert’s Australia and Asia legs. The one and only pop goddess, known for the hits such as “Like a Virgin” and “Material Girl,” will perform for two successive nights in her #MadonnaInManila concert set February 2016 at the 12,000-seater Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena in Pasay City.

The Manila leg is not yet officially included in the #RebelHeartTour website pending a formal announcement of the Madonna in Manila 2016 Concert details this month.

The 56-year-old pop icon will kick off her tour this September in Canada and continues throughout North America and UK/Europe.

Along with extraordinary critical acclaim as an artist, songwriter, and producer who has sold a record-breaking 300 million records, Madonna’s reputation as one of the most successful, provocative, and enduring live performers of all time speaks for itself.

In 2006, her ‘Confessions’ tour was named the highest-grossing tour in history by a female artist, a record she went on to beat again in 2009 with her ‘Sticky & Sweet’ tour.

Madonna has sold more than 300 million records worldwide and is recognized as the best-selling female recording artist of all-time by Guinness World Records.

She is the best-selling female rock artist of the 20th century and the second best-selling female artist in the United States, with 64.5 million certified albums. Billboard ranked her at number two, behind only The Beatles, on the Billboard Hot 100 All-Time Top Artists, making her the most successful solo artist in the history of American singles chart.

More on single releases Devil Pray and Bitch I’m Madonna in France #bitchimmadonna

Universal Music France confirms to us that both Devil Pray and Bitch I’m Madonna have been sent to French radio for airplay.

Devil Pray is intended for the older audience while Bitch I’m Madonna is directed at the younger generation, this way they hope to raise interest at both markets. They hope that M can find the time somewhere in her busy schedule to record a video for Devil Pray, however since she’s in the middle of tour rehearsals, this is highly unlikely.

Unfortunately no news on a physical cd single release in France. Universal Music France however confirms that the two French promo cd’s for Devil Pray and Bitch I’m Madonna are genuine.

Madonna in Manila confirmed: 2 nights at MOA Arena

Queen of Pop Madonna’s Manila concert has been set for “two nights on the last week of February 2016 at the Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena,” a source confirmed to the Inquirer on Wednesday.

On May 17 this year, the Inquirer broke the news that promoters are deciding whether to hold the impending Madonna concert either at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay or at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan.

The source, who requested anonymity because of lack of authority to officially speak on the matter, added that the decision to hold the concert at MOA Arena was confirmed by the advance payment required by Madonna’s handlers, facilitated by a group with direct links to the venue.

A formal announcement on the concert’s specific dates will be made next month, according to the source.

The official USA Promo cd’s for the Rebel Heart singles

Let’s take a look at the official promo cd’s for Madonna’s (first) three singles off Rebel Heart.

Living For Love was the official first single, loads were pressed mostly to be handed out during release parties and as giveaways.Ghosttown and Bitch I’m Madonna have been pressed by the same company that pressed Living For Love commissioned by Madonna’s management and record company in the US.

Ghosttown and Bitch I’m Madonna have been pressed in limited quantities, but both are genuine (and not DJ pressed cd’s). Due to the many homemade ‘promo’ cd’s on ebay it’s hard to find a genuine product.

Universal Music/Interscope is known to press it’s own promotional cd’s per country (as is the case in Holland, where they create and print their own promotional cd’s, not working with the official USA promo cd’s).

Warner Music NL mostly did use both the official German and USA promo cd’s and did not print their own (Revolver was a Benelux only promo cd).

Tribute to Madonna

La Ronde proudly presents the 31st edition of L’International des Feux Loto-Québec. In keeping with the tradition, this year’s edition is a succession of world-class displays. From July 1st to August 1st, on Saturday and Wednesday nights, Montreal’s sky will light up with outstanding fireworks displays by some of the greatest pyrotechnic artists of the world.

For the 2015 grand finale, La Ronde and PyroSpectaculars by Souza, a pyrotechnic company from California that has participated in the Montréal’s competition in 2001 and 2007, present a tribute to one of pop music’s most famous icons: Madonna. It will feature various musical “personalities” of the pop diva sure to get the audience into the groove. It will be all fireworks, songs and dance with chart toppers from her debut single Lucky Star to her latest Living for Love, to her movie songs such as Don’t Cry for Me Argentina and Live to Tell, plus her irresistible dance hits, including Vogue and Ray of Light all leading to an explosive finale of party anthems.

Fireworks out of competition. The fireworks start at 10 p.m., rain or shine.

Madonna teasing surprising setlist choices for Rebel Heart tour

Madonna appears to be teasing the setlist for her upcoming Rebel Heart tour through the medium of – what else – cryptic Instagram posts.

And if her posts – lyrics to some of her vintage hits with the hashtag #rebelhearttour – are to be believed, fans should expect some underloved classics to appear in the setlist when the tour kicks off in Montreal on September 9.

For many years now, Madonna’s tours have focused on her current album with a smattering of her biggest hits: Vogue, Holiday, Like A Prayer, Hung Up (the electric guitar version – sob). But just check out the songs she’s teasing, through song lyrics – and sometimes, song titles:

Deeper and Deeper (YAAAAS)
Love Don’t Live Here Anymore
Who’s That Girl
Dress You Up
True Blue

…That’s some vintage, underappreciated Madge right there. Several sources are reporting that today, Madonna posted – then quickly deleted – this update, suggesting she’ll include sugar-sweet True Blue album track Jimmy Jimmy:

Who’s That Girl and Deeper and Deeper to be included in the setlist?

So M keeps on playing her little teaser game, now mentioning true classics such as Who’s That Girl and Deeper and Deeper. Will they be included in the setlist for the Rebel Heart Tour?

Who’s That Girl was a huge hit for Madonna, in Holland it spent four weeks at number one in the charts. However she’s only ever performed the song live during the Who’s That Girl Tour. Originally the track was planned to be included on The Immaculate Collection, but later replaced by new track Rescue Me.

Let’s take a look at the stunning performance at the Who’s That Girl Tour in Japan in 1987

Why do we love to hate Madonna?

RICHARD S. HE questions our love/hate relationship with pop’s first lady ahead of Madonna’s first Australian tour in 23 year.

Madonna was never a bigger pariah than in 1993, the last time she toured Australia. Her infamous Sex book had just given an enormous middle finger to the prudishness of ‘90s pop culture. Equally pretentious and tongue-in-cheek, it was a coffee table art book that had no place in most respectable living rooms. Of course, you didn’t actually have to read it – the point was just that it existed. But at the same time her complex, contradictory Erotica record suffered for it, reduced to Sex’s same hypersexual veneer. She’d become too good a provocateur. That punk rock incarnation of Madonna would feel right at home in 2015, now that Sex has paved the way for everyone from Miley Cyrus to Kim Kardashian. Popstars who weren’t alive for ‘Like a Prayer’’s release revere her. So why does it still feel like the general public can’t wait to prematurely wheel her to the retirement home?

Madonna’s been called “desperate”, “calculated”, and much worse – usually by straight white men – ever since she rolled off the 1984 VMAs stage singing ‘Like a Virgin’ in a wedding dress. If it wasn’t true then, it’s even less true now. Nothing she did, not even Sex, was ever just bald-faced provocation. Now, Madonna has nothing left to prove except, ironically, that she still has something left to prove. No genre has a shorter memory than pop, where you’re only as good as your last move or you’re a flop. She can’t help being compared to not only all the younger, hungrier popstars in her wake but her entire three-decade legacy, like an albatross around her neck

MADONNA & NICKI MINAJ’S “BITCH I’M MADONNA” DEBUTS AT #84 ON HOT 100

“Bitch I’m Madonna” is the first Madonna single since “Give Me All Your Luvin'” to reach the Billboard Hot 100.

Bolstered by the launch of the buzzworthy music video, Madonna’s “Bitch I’m Madonna (featuring Nicki Minaj)” arrives on this week’s edition of the Billboard Hot 100.

The track starts at #84 on the listing, which accounts for sales, streaming and radio activity.

While lead album single “Living for Love” reached the “Bubbling Under Hot 100″ chart, “Bitch” is the first “Rebel Heart” track to reach the actual Hot 100.

Interestingly, Madonna’s previous Hot 100 entry also featured Nicki Minaj. “Give Me All Ur Luvin’ (featuring Nicki Minaj and MIA),” that song, went as high as #10 in 2012.
