Madonna Reigns at the Met Gala with a Surprise Performance
Madonna was the only one who could do this year’s Met Gala exhibit, “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination,” justice—and she delivered with a surprise performance that was nothing short of divine. Never one to shy away from a religious reference, the material girl wowed earlier in the evening on the red carpet in a regal black Jean Paul Gaultier gown which she paired with a black net veil over her face that was held in place by jeweled crosses and rosaries. Her blonde hair was parted down the center and two braids flanked her face.
Post-dinner, the fashion icon made a dramatic wardrobe change. Appearing in a monastic cloak, she descended the stairs of the Great Hall and made her grand entrance on stage to the tolls of church bells. Fittingly, she opened her set with her “Like a Prayer” and segued into a bone-chilling version of “Hallelujah.” Walking through the crowd and then suddenly rising above guests, the goddess shutdown the gala, and for that, we bow down to the Queen of Pop—now and forever!

Met Gala: Madonna Planning To Perform At Ball — Will She Sing ‘Like A Prayer’ Or ‘Hallelujah’?
Madonna is reportedly getting ready to perform some big hits at the upcoming Met Gala in New York City on May 7 and it’s sure to be a memorable moment. Find out the details of her performance here!
The 2018 Met Gala is almost here and Madonna, 59, one of the biggest music stars in history, is set to perform! The talented singer is reportedly getting ready to possibly sing covers of hit songs that aren’t her own at the huge event in NYC on May 7. “I’m hearing Madonna will perform at the Met Gala and possibly sing ‘Hallelujah’ and/or a Beatles tune, something along those lines,” a source close to Madonna told us.
The news of Madonna’s appearance is definitely exciting but it isn’t too surprising considering the songstress is known for performing and/or appearing at all kinds of lavish events, including the Met Gala, throughout her long career. Since the theme of this year’s gala is fashion and the catholic imagination, it would make sense if Madonna decided to sing her huge hit song “Like a Prayer” in addition to the other tunes she plans on belting out. We guess we’ll have to wait and see on this one.
While we anticipate Madonna’s part of the night, we can also look forward to plenty of familiar faces to show up at this year’s Met Gala. High-profile celebs such as Kim Kardashian, Bella Hadid and Sarah Jessica Parker are all confirmed to be getting ready to strut their stuff on the red carpet. As always, it will be fun to see what kind of wild wardrobe choices they decide to go with and who they decide to bring as a date. We’ll be on the lookout to narrow down some of our favorite looks and capture the unforgettable moments that make history when it comes to events such as this one!

Bye Bye Baby discography online – 8 different pressings
Next in our discography is Madonna’s final single from the ‘Erotica’ album: Bye Bye Baby. We’ve had to take a break from our discography due to other priorites, but will continue the work asap.
Released in selected countries only (Germany, Australia, Japan), there was no music video filmed but instead a live performance from the 1993 MTV VMA’s was used. Madonna performed the track with same choreography during her Girlie Show world tour. Sadly it hasn’t been performed since.
We have collected 8 different pressings of this single for you to enjoy, like the rare Australian cassette single. Check it all out HERE.
Madonna & The Catholic Church: A Love-Hate Style History
Nearly four decades on, the most famous Catholic in the world, besides the Pope (and maybe the late John F. Kennedy), might still be Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone. (“Veronica” is her confirmation name, by the way.) From the moment she debuted in 1983 with her self-titled dance-pop album (accompanied by magnetic, style-setting videos), Madonna — that name alone! — wore her religious upbringing on her sleeve — or around her neck, if we’re going to be literal about it. But the pop legend’s relationship with Catholicism — as a central style aesthetic and inspiration, as a symbol of a fraught, traumatic childhood overcome, as an oppressive system to rebel against — has never been straightforward.
In fact, Pontiac, Michigan’s pride and joy has been confrontational and provocative with the Church from the jump. First pairing a chunky crucifix with a bra, mesh top, rubber bracelets, and a Boy Toy belt buckle, the blonde superstar would later dye her hair back to parochial-school brown and slip on a negligee to dance before burning crosses and get intimate with a Black saint. On her most recent world tour in 2015-2016, she and her dancers wore modified (read: sexy!) nun’s habits and twirled on modified (read: crucifix-shaped) stripper poles to her intentionally-blasphemous song “Holy Water.” Like we said: confrontational.
It’s a thematic concern that’s never completely gone away — even after 13 albums, 69 videos, two marriages, six kids, and even a deep engagement with Kabbalah. So it makes sense, then, that this year’s “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute (and its accompanying star-stuffed gala, which she often attends) was clearly made for Madonna.
In honor of that — and her inevitably cool, likely controversial outfit for the evening — here’s a very brief style history of Madonna, Catholic girl gone bad.

15 Times Catholicism Inspired Iconic Fashion Moments
The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual Costume Institute Benefit, widely known as fashion’s biggest night, is looking to religion this year as its source of sartorial inspiration. The 2018 Met Gala theme, Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination is a rumination on the influence that Catholicism has had on fashion as we know it.
While some may consider the Met Gala’s theme to be daring or controversial, fashion has never shied away from holding anything as too sacred. From Madonna’s affinity for crucifixes as accessories to Lady Gaga’s avant-garde take on a nun’s habit for her 2011 Monster Ball tour, here’s a look back on 15 iconic fashion moments that were inspired by Catholicism and its aesthetics.
Madonna
In pop culture and the red carpet, there are few figures more closely associated with religion — and controversy — than Madonna. From her moniker to her love of a good crucifix accessory, Madge’s fixation on Catholicism (the religion she was raised in) has been a big part of her brand. Many point to her infamous 1989 music video for “Like a Prayer” (which featured stigmata, burning crosses, and a kiss between a saint and a very La Dolce Vita-esque Madonna in a black lace slip dress) as being Madonna’s most polarizing allusion to Catholicism and for good reason — the American Family Association boycotted it and led to Pepsi being cancelled.
However, Madonna’s “Like a Prayer” controversy was nothing compared to the backlash that she received during her 2006 Confessions a spokesperson for the Vatican called her concert “an act of open hostility” and suggested that she be excommunicated.a bohemian ensemble by Jean Paul Gaultier tour, where she wore (the designer responsible for her infamous cone bra) while hanging from a mirrored cross and sporting a fake crown of thorns. After she extended an invite to her concert in Rome to the Pope, a spokesperson from the Vatican denounced the concert as “an act of open hostility” and suggested that she should be excommunicated.
