Madonna Named Top Female Artist Of Past 60 Years

Madonna has cemented her position as the Queen of Pop after she was named the all-time top female artist in the 60-year history of America’s Billboard Hot 100.

Madonna has racked up 57 entries and 12 number ones on the pop chart, while she also holds the record for the most top 10 mentions among all acts with 38.

Interestingly, the Billboard countdown was first published on 4 August, 1958 – just 12 days before Madonna was born. She will celebrate her 60th birthday on 16 August (18).

She tops Mariah Carey, who takes second place among the top-performing female solo artists with 18 Hot 100 chart-toppers – the most for any solo act – while she also boasts the most cumulative weeks in first place of any act with 79.

Rounding out the top five are Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Rihanna, who made her chart debut in 2005 and already has the third-best track record when it comes to Hot 100 number ones with 14.

Olivia Newton-John, Aretha Franklin, pop rivals Taylor Swift and Katy Perry, and Diana Ross complete the top 10.

The list of the all-time top female artists on the Hot 100 emerges shortly after Sir Elton John was named the most successful male solo act with nine number ones, 27 top 10s, and a total of 67 entries, according to Billboard.

He beat Elvis Presley and Stevie Wonder to pole position, while Michael Jackson, and Paul McCartney also scored spots in the top five, with Usher, Prince, Rod Stewart, Drake, and Marvin Gaye making up the rest of the top 10.

Cardi B, Madonna and Diana Ross could headline Glastonbury 2019

Madonna, Cardi B and Diana Ross have been asked to perform at Glastonbury next year. Festival organisers are keen to address the gender ‘imbalance’ of artists on the bill at the main Pyramid Stage when the iconic event returns next summer, and they are targeting a huge list of big stars that they are keen to get involved. According to the Daily Star newspaper, joining the Beautiful Stranger hitmaker, the Bodak Yellow singer and the legendary former Supremes star on the wish list are the likes of Ellie Goulding, Mary J. Blige, Patti Smith, Dua Lipa, Jessie Ware and Jorja Smith, as well as female-fronted bands like Blondie and Wolf Alice. Organiser Emily Eavis recently MusicWeek: ‘Every booking Glastonbury make is conscious, we’re trying to address the imbalance. ‘We’ve got a way to go, there are areas of the festival that have 50/50 (gender representation) like The Park last year. ‘But The Pyramid obviously isn’t and we’re working on it.’ Chain Reaction singer Diana, 74, is being eyed for the Legend slot, a Sunday afternoon set that has previously featured veteran stars including Lionel Richie, Dolly Parton, Dame Shirley Bassey. Bee Gees star Barry Gibb, and Neil Diamond. Emily has teased: ‘It’s a female. She is not British but I can’t give you any more clues.’ Organisers are also looking to sign up a global pop star such as Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus or Rihanna, following the success of Katy Perry’s 2017 slot. Kylie Minogue is also hoping to be asked to perform, after previously pulling out of a planned headline slot due to her breast cancer diagnosis in 2005. She said: ‘It would be amazing and very emotional to be standing there and doing what I didn’t get to do all those years ago.’

Breaking: Madonna Confirms Her Upcoming Album Will Be Released in 2018 (according to VOGUE ITALIA article)

In the brand-new cover story for Vogue Italia — titled “Just one day out of life,” naturally — it’s confirmed that Madonna, the Queen of Pop, will be releasing new music before the end of 2018. We don’t know much about this new Madonna album, though we do know it was inspired and is an ‘answer’ to the time she’s recently spent in Portugal.

Madonna, who turns 60 years old on Aug. 16, tells Vogue Italia, “Let’s clarify one thing, this interview for Vogue Italia — including the images that accompany it — is about my life in Lisbon, about the year in which I lived there. So it does not make much sense to talk about anything else, right?” (Note that it’s likely that quote went from English into Italian, then back into English.)

She reportedly spent a year in Portugal with four of her six children, and this new Madonna album is inspired by “the landscapes and sounds of Lisbon,” one of the world’s most beautiful cities.

The Vogue Italia August 2018 issue in which release of the new Madonna album is announced

As Vogue Italia says of the new Madonna album, “new musical pieces were born, which will be collected in an album that will be released by the end of the year.”

We also know that for this 14th studio album, which will see release 36 years after her debut single “Everybody” back in 1982, she’s rumored to be working with producer Mirwais, who also worked on her Musicand American Life albums. Based on what Madonna herself has said on Instagram, she’s no longer interested in on-cohesive albums with multiple producers.

In February, after Madonna’s manager Guy Oseary posted an old MTV News clip and proclaimed her 1998 album Ray of Light as “one of the greatest albums of all time” (also the first record he worked on with her), she fired back in the Insta comments, “Remember when I made records with other artists from beginning to end and I was allowed to be a visionary and not have to go to songwriting camps where no one can sit still for more than 15 minutes…”

We can only guess this as-yet-untitled new Madonna album features one producer from beginning to end — or at least very few producers — and that Mirwais is one of the bigger names involved.

The August 2018 cover story contains photos taken by Mert & Marcus, with an interview by Xerxes Cook. Vogue Italia says it “wanted to celebrate the most successful musician of all time.”

Back in June Hornet spoke with legendary dance music DJ Junior Vasquez, who discussed whether he felt he and Madonna could truly patch up their relationship to make music magic one more time.

Madonna to celebrate 60th birthday with Malawi fundraiser

NEW YORK (AP) — Madonna is celebrating her upcoming 60th birthday with a fundraiser for orphans and children in Malawi.

The singer tells The Associated Press she’s teaming with Facebook for the fundraiser, which runs from Monday through August 31. Fans can donate directly to Madonna’s Facebook page or start their own fundraiser on the social media site to raise money for the singer’s campaign.

The proceeds will benefit her Raising Malawi foundation, and global payments company Ripple said it would match all of the donations.

Madonna will turn 60 on Aug. 16.

Madonna, who adopted four children from Malawi, founded Raising Malawi in 2006 to address the poverty and hardship endured by Malawi’s orphans and vulnerable children. She launched a children’s wing at a hospital in Malawi last year.

EXCLUSIVE: Madonna on Family Life in Portugal for Vogue Italia

Madonna photographed for the August issue of Vogue Italia

MILAN — Madonna, soccer mom?

This is the latest transformation of the artist, whose life in Lisbon takes center stage in the August issue of Vogue Italia, with an interview focused on her children, her passion for music and horses, as well as the projects for her charity Raising Malawi, flanked by a fashion shoot photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.

The magazine initially planned to mark Madonna’s 60th birthday in August with a celebration of her career and accomplishments, but it turned out she had a very different plan. “She doesn’t want to talk about the past,” Vogue Italia creative director Giovanni Bianco told WWD in an exclusive interview with editor in chief Emanuele Farneti.

Bianco is an important link with Madonna, as he has worked for 12 years with her on four CD covers, several tours and countless editorials.

“She is in an incredibly hard worker, I have learned so much from her intensity and dedication, but I think there is a distinction between her popular image and the day-by-day, normal person,” observed Bianco. “In this shoot, you see more of her maternal side, she is fascinating with her children and friends – she is an example.”

Madonna is living in Portugal with four of her six children: David Banda, 12; Mercy James, 12, and the twins Stella and Estere, 5. “She is very happy and romantic at the moment, and you can see it in the photos, where she poses with all that she loves the most,” said Bianco.

The shoot is called “Just one Day out of Life,” and Madonna on the two available covers and posters wears all-black Saint Laurent looks, posing at the Herdade do Peru estate, which dates back to the 18th century, and is located in the national Park of Arrábida, about 19 miles from Lisbon.

“She is a friend but I am also a fan, and my thoughts went straight to the collectible poster,” said Bianco gleefully. On both covers, Madonna strikes graphic and bold poses, either lying on one side on the grass, or looking up at the cloudy skies.

Madonna is also photographed out on the streets in Lisbon and at her favorite Tejo bar, where she regularly goes to listen to Portuguese and African music. “She knows the musicians there, it’s like a laboratory, there’s music from Cabo Verde and she loves fado [a Lisbon-based music genre],” said Bianco. Madonna is working on her next album and it’s safe to say that this music will infuse her work, added Farneti.

Designer brands included in the shoot range from Dsquared2, Dior, Prada and Dolce & Gabbana to Fendi, Rochas, Alberta Ferretti, Miu Miu, Blumarine and Peter Dundas, among others.

This being Madonna, “she basically did her own styling,” Bianco admitted.

The interview by Xerxes Cook is accompanied by stories and anecdotes on Madonna by the likes of Alessandro Michele, Donatella Versace, Riccardo Tisci, Kate Moss, Stella McCartney, her go-to stylist Arianne Phillips, Jean Paul Gaultier and Cristiano Ronaldo, to name a few.

The issue hits newsstands on August 3.

She’s set to celebrate her 60th birthday after dominating the music industry for nearly four decades.

And Madonna has reportedly ruled out plans for a tour as she prepares to mark her special day with a lavish bash in Portugal with her family, according to The Mirror.

Sources told the publication that the Queen of Pop, 59, is ‘enjoying having time off and winding down’ as she focuses on her children.

Insisting that the musician – who wrapped up her Rebel Heart Tour in 2016 – is not retiring, the insider added: ‘She is revelling in a slower pace of life and focusing on her children. That’s more important to her right now.’
